Who We Are

Brooklyn Voters Alliance (“BVA”) is an all-volunteer, non-partisan organization that works to protect and expand voting rights in New York State. We believe democracy is strongest when everyone has a voice. We promote voter participation, education, and civic engagement to ensure fairness and equal access to our fundamental right to vote.

Brooklyn Voters Alliance began as a working group of GetOrganizedBK and is a founding member of the Let NY Vote coalition.

What We Do

Brooklyn Voters Alliance works with the LetNYVote coalition and other groups throughout Brooklyn and New York to educate the public about voting and to press our representatives to pass meaningful voting reforms this legislative session. Please review our calendar for upcoming events and contact us at bkvotersalliance@gmail.com if you have any questions or would like us to speak to your group.

What We Support

In 2019, the New York State legislature passed significant and momentous legislation bringing a number of much needed voting reforms to New York. For the first time ever, New Yorkers will be able to vote early. In 2020, 16 and 17 year-olds will be able to pre-register to vote. And soon, unregistered voters will be able to register to vote online. While the enacted reforms were transformational, there is still much more to do. Brooklyn Voters Alliance specifically advocates for the following reforms to increase voter access and participation:

  • Automatic Voter Registration
  • Same-day Voter Registration
  • Permanent re-enfranchisement of individuals on parole
  • Elimination of disenfranchisement due to criminal conviction
  • A shorter deadline to change party registration
  • Board of Elections reform
