Senator Persaud’s voting rights record is ranked 8th of 9 Brooklyn State Senators.
Senator Persaud is a Democrat who was elected to the State Senate in November 2015 representing District 19. This District includes the following twelve communities: Canarsie, East New York, Brownsville, Mill Basin, Sheepshead Bay, Bergen Beach, Marine Park, Flatlands, Mill Island, Georgetown, Ocean Hill and Starrett City.
Senator Persaud’s grade is indicative of her sponsorship of only one bill concerning voting rights, which would require the tax preparation software to include a voter registration link, and co-sponsorship of two other bills. While Senator Persaud’s bill presents a new way to reach voters and is supported by BVA, such overall inaction with regards to the sponsorship and co-sponsorship of voting rights legislation resulted in a shamefully low score. We encourage Senator Persaud to voice her support for this issue through her pen.
